Propositions, connectives and truth tables
§3.1 · Propositions · 00:04:10
A proposition is a declarative statement that is either true or false, but not both. “The lab is open” is a proposition. “Open the lab” is a command, so it is not a proposition.
§3.2 · Connectives · 00:07:20
Negation ¬p reverses the truth value of p. Conjunction p ∧ q is true only when both p and q are true. Inclusive disjunction p ∨ q is true when at least one is true.
§3.3 · Implication · 00:11:05
The conditional p → q is false only when p is true and q is false. If p is false, p → q is true regardless of q. For p = “I submit the assignment” and q = “I receive feedback”, p true and q false makes the conditional false.
§3.4 · De Morgan’s law · 00:16:40
The negation of p ∨ q is ¬p ∧ ¬q. The negation of p ∧ q is ¬p ∨ ¬q. Negate both parts and switch the connective.
