MAYA · SAMPLE QUESTION
Why is p → q true when p is false? I keep confusing it with “and”.

SAMPLE RESPONSE · STRICT COURSE MODE
The sample transcript defines p → q as false only when p is true and q is false. When p is false, the implication is true regardless of q.
Using the assignment example: the condition “I submit the assignment” did not happen, so we are not in the one false case — submitting and not receiving feedback.
That is different from p ∧ q, which needs both p and q to be true. Keep this shortcut in mind: implication fails only at true → false.
